Introduction

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is supporting a Special Interest Group (SIG) in Environmental Risk Management. The activities of the SIG are managed through the Industrial Mathematics KTN.

One of the first activities of SIG is to identify the areas of strategic alignment between insurance industry needs and NERC funding priorities.

A draft list of candidate themes of strategic importance to NERC and the insurance industry has been prepared by the Industrial Mathematics KTN. These themes will be refined and prioritised through consultation with SIG members. The final version of the prioritised themes will be used to determine the scope of SIG events and project activity for insurance.

This social network has been set up to enable members to contribute to the development of strategic alignment within the SIG activities between NERC priorities and the insurance industry. Members are encouraged to contribute to a discussion on the industry priorities for the SIG.

We have already held discussions with AON Benfield, Aviva, Catlin, Guy Carpenter, Hiscox, Liberty Group, Munich Re, Lloyd's of London, RMS, Willis and Zurich Re and their responses have been posted at the discussion board in no particular order.
